Over the past 100 years, Sikhs have been migrating to British Columbia. As the community has grown, Sikhs have become an integral part of the fabric of BC and Canada as a whole.

In this lesson plan, Sikh migration is explored through four time periods of the greatest migration and the challenges faced during each time.

Focus Questions.

  • Who gets to determine who is permitted and who is not?

  • How does the economic state of the region/country of discussion impact waves of immigration?

  • What are the social, political, and economic connections, or disconnections, that affect migration?

  • What are push and pull factors?
